We recently got to see Starfield in action at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, and creative director Todd Howard later went on record to talk more about it (and the studio’s future plans) in a follow-up interview with IGN. During the interview, he confirmed that Fallout 5 is officially on the cards for the studio, and will be the studio’s next game after Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6.

Howard talked about how The Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production at the moment, and that the team already has its hands full for the foreseeable future.

“Yes, Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production and, you know, we’re going to be doing Fallout 5 after that, so our slate’s pretty full going forward for a while,” he said. “We have some other projects that we look at from time to time as well.”

He also said that the studio’s RPGs tend to take large amounts of time to develop and that they are trying hard to make development as fast as they can while ensuring the best quality.

“They do take a while, I wish they came out faster, I really do, we’re trying as hard as we can, but we want them to be as best as they can be for everybody.”

Howard previously talked about how the team had some ideas for Fallout 5, although unsurprisingly. he stopped short of revealing any details. With The Elder Scrolls 6 probably targeting for a 2026/27 launch (at best), it’s going to be a very long time before fans get a good look at the next numbered entry in the Fallout franchise.
