Since Starfield’s launch, Bethesda Game Studios has been at work on polishing it further and adding in new features, and the developer has confirmed a few more of the latter that it’s currently got in the works.

The studio recently confirmed in a comment on Starfield that it’s working on several fixes and improvements to the game based on feedback from the community, with support for FSR3 and XeSS set to arrive in an update in early 2024. On top of that, the developer is also working on finally adding in city maps, and perhaps more importantly, “new ways of traveling”.

“We’ve been hard at work on many of the issues you’ve posted, and expect an update early next year that will include a large number of “in-progress” quest fixes as well as FSR3 and XeSS,” Bethesda Game Studios wrote. “Though we fixed several quest issues from occurring, in-progress quest fixes are much harder to fix and we’ve built a new system to correct those without you having to roll back your save.

“We’re also hard at work on many of new features you asked for, from city maps, to mod support, to all new ways of traveling (stay tuned!).”

What exactly “new ways of travelling” is referring to remains to be seen, but one would hope that it means Bethesda is working on adding land-based vehicles to the game to make planetside exploration faster and less dull. There’s a chance that the developer is referring to new ways to travel through space, or perhaps even new and more convenient fast travel systems, but given that land vehicles have been heavily requested by the community pretty much since the day the game released, we’d be surprised if Bethesda decided to prioritize other travel methods over them.

Meanwhile, the studio has also confirmed that it will be releasing major updates roughly once every six weeks, in order to have plenty of time to thoroughly test them before going live with them, with those six-week periods being interspersed with smaller hotfixes.

“These will be rolling out with a regular cadence of fixes and updates we expect to have roughly every six weeks,” the studio wrote. “If something can be done in a smaller hotfix in between (like the asteroid), and we feel it’s safe, we’ll get one of those out as well. Safe is the key here. We do take a lot of time to test even the smallest change in a game this large and dynamic.”

As previously confirmed, full mod support for Starfield is also set to arrive sometime in 2024, while Bethesda Game Studios also has the first expansion, Shattered Steel, in the works. With over 250 people still working on Starfield across the studio, clearly, there’s plenty of new features and content coming to the game in the future.

Starfield is available on Xbox Series X/S and PC. The game has crossed 12 million players worldwide. Read our review through here.
