Silent Hill 2 Remake

Silent Hill had a strong presence at Sony’s last State of Play, from the stealth release of Silent Hill: The Short Message to a new trailer for Bloober Team’s remake of Silent Hill 2. While the former crossed two million downloads despite mixed reviews, the latter also garnered its share of mixed responses. You can check out our thoughts here.

Interestingly, Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno also feels that the trailer “doesn’t reflect the spirit of the game.” Speaking to investor.tv in a now-private video interview (transcription by Eurogamer, translation via DeepL), he joked about writing the negative comments for the trailer. However, he added, “I’m pretty serious that we’re not responsible for the marketing page. It is the responsibility of our partner [Konami]. This trailer certainly does not reflect the spirit of the game.

“This is neither the spirit of what once was nor the spirit of what we are creating now. We try to fully reflect this romantic vision of the game that debuted 22 years ago. We think that when players see real gameplay, a real game, they will evaluate it in a completely different way.”

Though there have been doubts about the project from fans, some have also reached out with positive messages. As for the visuals, Babieno said, “I think you can be confident that we are taking advantage of all the possibilities of Unreal [Engine] 5.”

Silent Hill 2 is in development for PS5 and PC, though its release date is unknown (but PlayStation indicated a 2024 launch earlier in the year). Silent Hill series producer Motoi Okamoto said it’s in the “final stages of development”, so perhaps a launch date will be announced sooner or later. Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime.
