Silent Hill 2 Remake Has Seemingly Redesigned Protagonist James’ Face

A screenshot recently uploaded to the Steam database suggests the remake will now feature a younger-looking James, bringing his design closer to the original game.

Konami and Bloober Team have been unnervingly quiet about Silent Hill 2’s upcoming remake, but though official details have been hard to come by, some interesting new tidbits have seemingly emerged that hint at changes being made to the game behind the scenes based on feedback from fans.

Specifically, Konami recently uploaded a new screenshot of the Silent Hill 2 remake to the Steam backend (via SteamDB), which suggests that developer Bloober Team has redesigned the facial model for protagonist James Sutherland. A specific shot (one that’s easily recognizable for fans of the original) that was showcased in the remake’s announcement trailer shows James looking at a reflection of himself in a mirror, which showed that the character had been aged up compared to his original iteration.

The change wasn’t one that was universally liked by Silent Hill 2 fans, with many not liking his aged up look. The aforementioned newly updated screenshot, however, suggests that James’ look has been redesigned based on that feedback to make him look younger and closer to how he looked in the original game. Recent leaks have claimed that Silent Hill 2’s remake will be showcased at an upcoming PlayStation-focused event in May– if that’s accurate, it’s likely that we’ll be seeing more of James’ new look soon.

Silent Hill 2 is in development for PS5 and PC. A release date hasn’t yet been announced, but earlier this year, PlayStation suggested it would launch in 2024.
