Xbox Leads Mexican Gaming Market With Over 50% Marketshare

Microsoft leads an American nation- just not the one you may have expected.

PlayStation 4 doesn’t have global market dominance- in Japan, it only just managed to overtake Nintendo’s Wii U, and in Latin America, it sounds like Xbox rules the roost. In a new report on the state of the Mexican gaming market, The Competitive Intelligence Unit shared data (via NeoGAF) that revealed that the Xbox brand totally and utterly dominates in the North American nation. Not only that, but it seems as though even Nintendo is a stronger presence in Mexico than PlayStation, with only the Wii U’s poor performance keeping Sony ahead for now.

Xbox leads with 57.9% marketshare in the country, with the lion’s share of this going to Xbox 360, which has 39.8% of the sales in the country. The Wii and the Xbox One both follow with 12% marketshare each, while the PS3 comes in at 10.5%. PS4 has 9% of the market, and the original Xbox still commands 6% of the market, beating out the PS2, which is at 4.5%. Nintendo’s Wii U comes in last, at 3%, although it does do better than all the other consoles, including, presumably, the Gamecube.

According to the analysis, the industry is set to grow by 13.3% over the previous year by this year’s end, with a value of 22.852 million pesos, that thanks to a bigger number of users playing mobile games. If Microsoft can leverage their brand strength here, and graduate some of those mobile users to Xbox, they will have a stranglehold over a not insignificant market.
