Square Enix’s European and American CEO Phil Rogers recently revealed in an official blog post that development on a sequel to Tomb Raider is well underway, and that it will be releasing for the next generation of consoles, namely the PS4 and Xbox One.

“I am excited to reveal that we are well into development on a next-generation Tomb Raider sequel.” He also stated that it is one of Square-Enix’s “next-gen blockbusters”. As of now, it’s unlikely we’ll be hearing or seeing the new Tomb Raider until at least next year, with a release date perhaps as far away as 2015.

Eidos Montreal and Square Enix originally rebooted the franchise, releasing the new Tomb Raider back in March for the Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3. As an origins story, it saw a grittier take on the universe with a younger Lara Croft fighting to survive on an island full of maniacs.
