We’ve all been wondering why there hasn’t yet been an announcement for a Wii U release of the upcoming Tomb Raider. Well, it turns out there’s not going to be one. Crystal Dynamics says that the game will not be coming out for the Nintendo HD system at all.

Why? Creative director Noah Hughes explains that the team has worked hard to make the experience the same across the 360, the PS3 and the PC, but with the Wii U and its capabilities  the team would have been forced to introduce something that made the specific version different from the others, which is not something that Crystal Dynamics wanted.

“I’m always a fan of the Nintendo systems, in particular they really push interface design, and from a game design perspective it’s fun to play with new interfaces,” Hughes told Arabic site True Gaming. “Having said that it’s something that I think we would want to tailor the experience to if we were going to do it.

“All three [other console versions] are really trying to deliver roughly the same experience but delivered best on each platform, and I think something like the Wii U often asks you to do something unique based on a unique interface. That’s something as a gamer I love but it’s something you don’t want to do half-heartedly as a developer.”

Oh well, at least the Wii U owners are starting to see more announcement from Nintendo, eh?

Tomb Raider releases in March for the 360, PS3 and PC. Stay tuned for more info.
