With The Last of Us’ standalone multiplayer project in the works and with a remake of the first game also heavily rumoured to be in development, Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic series has plenty of irons in the fire- and of course, it’s soon going to expand beyond games as well. An HBO adaptation of the first game is currently in production, and in celebration The Last of Us Day yesterday, the folks behind the show shared a sneak peak of the show- or, well, a single photo from it, to be more precise.
Series co-creator and creative director of both games, Neil Druckmann (who is also going to be directing some episodes of the show itself) recently took to Twitter and shared a photo from the show, showing Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie. The two are shown standing together with their backs to the camera, looking on at a crashed plane on top of a low rise in the distance. Where the visual palette and the costumes for Joel and Ellie are concerned, the photo certainly looks encouraging. Of course, this scene in particular isn’t something that was in the game itself, but we know that the show is going to expand on the source material’s story, so it’s not surprising to see unfamiliar scenes as well.
HBO’s The Last of Us show is expected to air some time in 2022, and will consist of ten episodes. Stay tuned for more updates in the coming months.
When I first saw them on set in full costume, I was like: "Hooooooly shit! It's Joel & Ellie! 😭!"
