The First Descendant - Reactors

There are many things to collect in The First Descendant, from weapons and Modules to crafting components for Descendants and Amorphous Materials for loot drops, etc. Reactors and Components are also randomly dropped throughout missions, with each offering stats and sub-stats to make your character stronger. How do you obtain the best of both? Find out below.

How to Get the Best Reactors and Components

Reactors are specific to different elements, so having one better suited for Fire elemental characters isn’t the best choice when using an Electric Descendant like Bunny. If you have the correct element and a corresponding weapon equipped, then a Reactor can increase your Skill Power by 140 percent.

To effectively farm them, you’ll need to progress through the story enough to unlock Infiltration Operations. Upon spawning into Albion HQ, head to the left until you see two globes – the closest one allows for accessing these. They essentially allow for replaying instance dungeons from the story but with different modifiers to increase the difficulty. The rewards include Descendant crafting materials, weapons, Reactors and Amorphous Materials, each with separate drop chances, so it’s not guaranteed.

The loot scales on the region’s level, so something like Mystery’s End at White-Night Gulch will provide level 55 Reactors as end-of-mission rewards. Meanwhile, Bio-Lab in the same region offers level 65 Reactors and weapons. Remember that they can drop randomly from slaying foes, but enemies will be at the same level as the drops, so be prepared.

Once you finish the main quest and zone missions, you can select Hard mode Infiltration Operations, which have even more modifiers and allow for adding further challenges. Level 100 Reactors drop as rewards and random drops. You can also set World Difficulty to Hard and obtain Reactors from the various red icon missions in the field. The catch is that some enemies will have much higher resistances to certain elemental damage types and weaker resistances to others, so bringing specific Descendants is recommended.

Components are obtained the same way – specifically as random drops when running through missions. They can also drop from Void Intercepts, which also offer Reactors, weapons and so on, though they’re not the most optimal method given the time required to slay a Colossus.

Though they may not seem like much initially, providing some defense bonuses and resistances, Ultimate higher tiers of Components grant set bonuses. Collect others of the corresponding set and additional stats and benefits.
