Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew Will be 25-30 Hours Long “At Least”

But your play time "can scale well beyond that if players want to invest more time," according to Moritz Wagner, head of design at Mimimi Games.

Earlier this year, Mimimi Games announced Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crewa new real-time tactics stealth title that will see you controlling a crew of pirates with fantastical powers, set against the backdrop of an alternate history Golden Age of Piracy setting. Coming from the studio that has delivered excellent real-time tactics games like Desperados 3 and Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun, it’s obviously drawn a lot of eyes, and recently, we had the chance to interview Mimimi Games’ head of design Moritz Wagner and learn plenty more about the game.

One of many new details that Wagner shared with us was Shadow Gambit’s estimated play time, and as you’d expect from a new game coming from the studio, it’s going to be quite a meaty experience. When asked about roughly how long an average playthrough of the game will be, Wagner said that it will be “at least” 25-30 hours long for “an experienced player who plays at normal speed”, though there will still be plenty of stuff for players to do beyond just finishing the story that could take the play time to “well beyond” those numbers.

“It’s hard to say since in our type of game it very often depends a lot on the experience players have with the genre,” Wagner told GamingBolt. “Also how much you engage with the story, optional content etc, I would say that for an experienced player who plays at a normal speed the playtime can be estimated at around 25-30 hours at least. But there is a lot of stuff to do after you played through the game once in the form of badges and other stuff. So it can scale well beyond that if players want to invest more time.”

That’s pretty much in the same ballpark as the amount of content Desperados 3 had on offer, and given how densely packed that game was, it looks like we might be looking at yet another game with plenty of meat on its bones.

Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew is out sometime this year on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Our full interview with Wagner will be live soon, so stay tuned for that.
