PlayStation Downloads Account For 2.7% of Total Global Internet Traffic

Now can we maybe have PSN not go down so often?

While the online revolution for console gaming may have been set off by Sega and Xbox, it is PlayStation that, by being the dominant console in an age where online gaming is essential for console gaming, has benefitted the most from it. In fact, PlayStation owners are so tuned to online functionality that downloads on PlayStation machines account for 2.7% of the total global internet traffic.

I want you to take a minute to try to understand what that means. Of all the traffic worldwide, downloads on PlayStation are almost 3% of it all. That’s ridiculous, and shows you just how deeply and far PlayStation as an ecosystem has permeated and is embedded. The numbers come to us courtesy of Statista and SandVine, who also had the startling revelation that Netflix accounts for 15% of global traffic. Given how massive Netflix is, knowing that PlayStation is a fifth of that should help you understand how big a deal this is.

Neither Xbox nor Nintendo, nor even Steam, for that matter, placed high enough to be recognized separately on the chart, which you can see for yourself below. Now, Sony, knowing how big PlayStation downloads are… maybe you can try to ensure the service doesn’t go down quiet as often, yes?
