With the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 set to be a reboot of the franchise set in its own new timeline, it’s fair to assume that it’ll be doing plenty to change the series’ tried-and-true formula, and while a lot of that will come in the form of new ideas, it looks like some older features from earlier instalments might also be returning.

Developer NetherRealm Studios recently took to Twitter to ask fans to sign up for Mortal Kombat 1’s upcoming server stress tests, and in the process, confirmed that the test will “prioritize online 1v1 matches”- potentially suggesting that the full game will have additional options beyond 1v1 battles as well.

The last team a Mortal Kombat game allowed tag team battles was in 2011’s soft reboot, which introduced Tag Team Ladders, allowing players to play 2v2 fights either with a friend, or solo with control over two characters. Whether that feature will be making a comeback remains to be seen.

It was recently confirmed that a gameplay reveal for Mortal Kombat 1 will be coming on June 8 at Summer Game Fest, so we’ll be learning more about the fighter soon. Recently, its post-launch DLC plans were also leaked via Amazon Italy- read more on that through here.

Mortal Kombat 1 launches on September 19 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Check out its PC requirements through here.
