Mortal Kombat 1 is Bringing Back Quitalities (with Some Changes)

Players have discovered in the fighter's stress test that Quitalities are back, with elements of Mortal Kombat: Deception's Hara-Kiris thrown in.

Running into rage quitters is always a frustrating experience in online experiences, but games have, of course, adopted varying techniques over the years to discourage that particular practice. Mortal Kombat’s solution has been a rather creative one. In Mortal Kombat X, the series introduced Quitalities, which would see rage quitters’ characters dying hilariously violent deaths with unique Fatality animations.

Quitalities returned in Mortal Kombat 11, and we now have confirmation (in case there was any doubt) that they will be back in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 as well. The same was confirmed by content creator Ketchup, who recently uploaded a gameplay clip showing a Quitality in Mortal Kombat 1, courtesy of the game’s ongoing online stress test.

Interestingly, however, the clip also illustrates a key change being made to Quitalities in the upcoming fighter, in that they will now involve the rage quitting character snapping their own neck, which, of course, bears more than a few resemblances to the Hara-Kiri mechanic from Mortal Kombat: Deception.

Mortal Kombat 1 is due out on September 19 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
