Developer MachineGames has stressed multiple times now that its upcoming action-adventure title Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is going to be quite a sizeable experience, with plenty of open areas scattered throughout the otherwise linear experience for players to explore. Speaking with PC Gamer, the developer offered further details on what to expect from the game on that front.

Specifically, design director Jens Andersson revealed that the game’s open areas are going to feature immersive sim elements, with players being given multiple different options and pathways to accomplish objectives, such as making it through an enemy camp.

“There are also more open areas, almost bordering immersive sim-style, like there’s an enemy camp, here you’re supposed to get into the main building, figure it out, and you can explore,” he said.

Interestingly enough, these open-ended areas will also feature social sim elements. As per Andersson, every open area in the Great Circle will have multiple disguises for players to find, each of which will give you easier access to areas you that otherwise would have been much more difficult to get through.

“Every big location has a number of disguises for you to discover,” he explained. “That helps you pass as someone that belongs there, gives you access to areas you otherwise would have a really hard time getting through.”

Where combat is concerned, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is going to be focused on hand-to-hand fisticuffs much more than you would expect from a first-person title made by the developers of Wolfenstein. Read more on that through here.

Indian Jones and the Great Circle launches for Xbox Series X/S and PC on December 9, and for PS5 in Spring 2025.
