Hogwarts Legacy

Since its announcement over a year agoHogwarts Legacy has receded into the background, with Warner Bros. and developer Avalanche Software having been awfully quite about the action RPG (other than announcing its delay from 2021 into 2022). Many had expected that the game would show up at The Game Awards, which took place last week, but with that not having happened, questions about when we can expect to see it have started popping up again.

According to prominent insider and leaker Millie, it might happen soon. Taking recently to Twitter, she stated that with Hogwarts Legacy having been announced last year amidst the controversies surrounding Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling due to her transphobic comments, Warner Bros. is choosing to be “very careful” with the game, with their approach being defined by “hesitancy and caution” in an effort to ensure that it doesn’t become embroiled in similar controversies.

Apparently, the publisher was eyeing The Game Awards 2021 for a new trailer for Hogwarts Legacy, but ultimately decided to pull that, replacing it with a brief CG announcement for Wonder Woman. Interestingly, the game is now set to receive a new trailer, which is ready to go, at a rumoured upcoming PlayStation event. Previous rumours have claimed that Sony is planning a PSX event for December, which other leaks seem to have fallen in line with as well.

Shortly after its announcement last year, Warner Bros. attempted to distance the game from Rowling, confirming that the controversial author would have no direct involvement with the game. Earlier this year, it was also confirmed that its character creator would feature transgender options.

Hogwarts Legacy – which is also receiving development support from Sumo Digital – is due out in 2022 – possibly sometime after April – for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
