Final Fantasy 16

Square Enix made quite the impact at Sony’s PS5 showcase, announcing Final Fantasy 16 and showcasing its first trailer. It’s a timed console exclusive for PS5 and also coming to PC but what struck us was just how stunning it looked. The presentation may also strike a chord with Final Fantasy 14 players – that’s because producer Naoki Yoshida is confirmed to be the producer on Final Fantasy 16.

Hiroshi Takai, who also worked on Final Fantasy 14 along with The Last Remnant, has been confirmed as director. Yoshida revealed that the footage “comprised of both battles and cutscenes running in real-time.” He also stated that this was “but a fraction of what our team has accomplished since the start of development on this, an all-new Final Fantasy game.”

Takai did note that, “Though we’re pouring our hearts and souls into this project each and every day, it may still be some time before we can get it into your hands.” The next big information reveal will be happening in 2021 but it’s likely that the game is still a few years off. It should be worth the wait, regardless.

Yoshida also noted that the development team has a lot in store for Final Fantasy 14 as well. Could this mean a new expansion is on the horizon? Perhaps a PS5 release for the game? Time will tell so stay tuned for more details.
