Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 16 hasn’t made an appearance since its reveal last year and sadly, there was no new trailer or announcements at Tokyo Game Show 2021. However, producer Naoki Yoshida – who was present on livestream with Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi – did offer an update. The former noted that the main scenario is currently complete with side quests currently in development and almost finished.

The character models are also almost finished and currently, the development team is polishing up on the overall quality. Yoshida also revealed that the main scenario was initially meant to be produced with a small team. It wasn’t until plans were finalized that the team’s size increased and over the production period (which was noted as being long), there was quite a bit of trial and error.

Nevertheless, Yoshida felt that starting with a small team and then expanding slowly is important. Final Fantasy 16 is currently in development for PS5 (though a PC version is also reportedly in development). Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
