Crystal Dynamics: “There’s no safe place to come out”, wary of GTA 5 and other games

Well that's something they gotta keep in mind obviously.

It’s a known fact in the gaming industry that you do not release games in November which is also known as the Call of Duty month, and with recent reports of the game selling $1 billion in just 15 days, things will never change when it comes to developers pushing their titles next year.

However, in 2013, there’s threat from GTA 5 and other games which will no doubt make people think twice before buying less hyped up games. We saw that with Red Dead Redemption where Alan Wake completely suffered and was a commercial failure selling only 500k units, slowly hitting 2 million units and finding success on the PC.

In an interview with Nowgamer, the creative director of Tomb Raider has mentioned that there’s no safe place for a game to come out.

“How hard is that! Launching in the shadow of GTA! [Laughs]. There are so many games these days; I think the [console] developers are really hitting their strides with the current consoles,” he said.

“It’s not just GTA, there are so many amazing games coming out I don’t know that there’s a safe place to come out. But I’m sure if GTA could just go away we’d be fine [laughs]. Just as long as I can play it as soon as possible.”

GTA 5 does not have a solid release date yet but it’s being speculated that it may come out in May which is also known as Rockstar’s month.
