Starfield Update’s Beta Launch Delayed, Now Planned for Later This Week

Bethesda Game Studios has discovered an issue it wants to address before launching its largest update yet into Steam Beta.

Bethesda Game Studios’ next update for Starfield has faced a delay. Originally meant to launch on January 17th into the Steam Beta branch, with a worldwide release planned for two weeks later, it’s coming later this week. The developer will confirm the timing of the beta launch when “we know for sure.”

As for the reason behind the delay, it’s due to discovering “an issue we want to address before releasing our update into the Steam Beta.” The update will provide over 100 fixes and improvements for lighting, textures, shadows, sun disk geometry, planet ring shadows and more. Quests like Eye of the Storm and Into the Unknown will also see fixes.

Stay tuned for more details and extensive patch notes when the update goes live later this week. Starfield is available for Xbox Series X/S and PC, while also being available on Game Pass. Bethesda plans to launch regular updates every six weeks starting in February, with new ship decorations, gameplay options (like carry capacity adjustments), and survival mechanics in the works. The first story expansion, Shattered Space, is also coming later this year.
