Guerrilla Games’ Horizon: Zero Dawn is one of the PS4 exclusives that will benefit from the PS4 Pro’s added power and while the game itself arrives next year, a new PlayStation Blog post detailed exactly how the open world action adventure will take advantage of the console.
Technical director Michiel van der Leeuw said that both 1080p and 4K resolution displays will benefit from the PS4 Pro version with features like better colour, extra detail, better shadow maps and higher quality anisotropic filtering. Supersampling will also be included which allows the game to render at “close to 4K’ and then downsize to 1080p in order to deliver better image quality with smoother edges.
Checkerboarding will be in effect for 4K displays and delivers a 2160p resolution. As per Leeuw, this allows for details like the “stitching on Aloy’s outfit, individual leaves and branches swaying in the wind, kilometers away in the distance, and more detail in all the machines and NPCs in the world.” HDR support has also been confirmed to present “brighter and deeper colors [with] more contrast and vibrancy.”
Horizon: Zero Dawn is out on February 28th 2017 while the PS4 Pro arrives on November 10th 2016.
